Lions 'Pedal Power Project' launched

Helping Kids Move Forward

Local Collaboration Bringing Bicycles to Local Children

Inverloch Lions has launched of the ‘Lions Pedal Power Project’ — a new initiative providing brand-new bicycles and safety equipment to local children in the Inverloch and Wonthaggi areas who might not otherwise have access to them.

This impactful community program is established through an agreement between the Lions, the Wonthaggi Proactive Policing Unit, and Inverloch Bike Hire.

The initiative aims to foster healthy recreation, independence, and community inclusion for local children in need. The Lions Club has committed up to $4,000 in the first round of funding to purchase  bicycles and safety equipment to be delivered before Christmas this year.

Key roles in the collaboration:

  • Wonthaggi Proactive Policing Unit will confidentially identify and select eligible recipients, ensuring the bikes reach the children who need them most, with assistance from local schools and welfare services.
  • Inverloch Bike Hire will supply, size, and ensure the quality and safe delivery of all new bicycles and associated safety equipment.
  • Inverloch Lions will coordinate funding, community donations, and ongoing program support.

While the initial funding covers several recipients, the Inverloch Lions are appealing to the community for donations to extend the program and ensure every identified child receives a bike.

Every donation goes directly toward purchasing an additional bicycle and safety kit — helping more local kids move forward.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Proactive Policing Unit and Inverloch Bike Hire to bring this project to life,” said Lion Brook Arelette. “Every child deserves the chance to experience the joy and independence of owning a bike. The more we raise, the more local children we can surprise in the next round of funding early next year. We urge our community to pedal with us and make a difference.”

“The Wonthaggi Proactive Policing Unit is proud to be partnering with the Lions Club of Inverloch and Inverloch Bike Hire in the Lions Pedal Power program — supplying bicycles to children and families doing it tough in these challenging times. We look forward to continuing our partnership delivering the Lions Pedal Power and other programs that benefit our local communities,” said Leading Senior Constable Nick Carlson, Wonthaggi Proactive Policing Unit.

“This project is another example of the hard work, dedication, and community-mindedness of our local Lions Club. We are extremely pleased to support such a fantastic initiative in conjunction with the Wonthaggi PPU,” said Meika and Danny, owners of Inverloch Bike Hire.

What we do

Lions Australia has a proud history of achievement in Disaster and Emergency Relief, Medical Research and Community Service. We were at the coalface for Cyclone Tracy, the Black Saturday bush fires and the Queensland floods.

We were involved with the development of the bionic ear and the cervical cancer vaccine Gardasil, developed by Prof Ian Frazer AC, a former Lions Medical Research Foundation Fellow. We also inspired a young Fred Hollows and continue to provide funding for a range of other research initiatives involving diabetes and autism.

We assist with local community fundraising for special causes and help with the development and building of local parks, community venues, and sporting centres.
